ISSF, is the International Shooting Sport Federation. These are your Olympic and Commonwealth games events. There are 7 main pistol events, Rapid Fire, 10m Air Pistol Mens & Womens, Center Fire, Sports Pistol, Standard Match and 50m Free Pistol. Only 5 of these are shot at the Olympics, center fire and standard match are included at the commonwealth games and at club and national levels.


Rapid Fire Pistol consists of one shot on each of the 5 adjacent targets over 3 different time periods, 8 seconds, 6 seconds, and 4 seconds. It is shot over 25 meters firing a total of 60 shots.

10m Air Pistol is shot over 10 meters and consists of a 60 shot match for Men and Junior Men, 40 for Women and Junior Women, and is shot over a time period of 1hr 45mins for men and 1hr 15mins for women.

Center Fire Pistol is shot in two separate stages. First is precision - 5 minutes for 5 shots, second is Dueling, 1 shot in 3 seconds, repeated 5 times. It is shot over 25 meters fireing a total of 60 shots.

25m Pistol is shot in two separate stages. First is precision - 5 minutes for 5 shots, second is Dueling, 1 shot in 3 seconds, repeated 5 times. This is similar to Center Fire but shot by women, juniors, and disabled using .22 caliber pistols. It is shot over 25 meters firing a
total of 60 shots.

Standard Match is using .22 caliber pistols over 25 meters. The match consists of 3 separate time stages. 5 shots in 150 seconds, 5 shots in 20 seconds and 5 shots in 10 seconds. Again, a total of 60 shots are fired

50m Pistol again uses .22 caliber pistols. It is shot over 50 meters and consists of 60 shots in 2 hours.
